How to Connect a Playstation 4 Controller to a PC or Mac

by UPSCALED November 16, 2022 3 POPULAR READ

Introduction

I'm a huge fan of the Sony PlayStation 4. I've had one since launch and have played all kinds of games on it, from single-player RPGs to first-person shooters and everything in between. But there's something that's always bugged me about PCs: they're missing out on some great games because many developers don't make them available for PC players (and if they do, they're often a bad port). Fortunately, there's an easy solution—connecting your PS4 controller to your PC or Mac so you can play any game you want!

Step 1: Connecting the controller using USB cable

Connect the controller to a USB port on your computer or Mac. To do this, simply plug one end of the USB cable into the controller and the other end into a USB port on your computer or Mac. If you have more than one port available, try connecting it to different ports to see if that fixes the issue.

Reconnect while pressing both Share and Options buttons simultaneously (not simultaneously as in at once, but consecutively). This should reset any error with your PlayStation 4 controller and allow it to connect properly when you reconnect it again later

If you’re still having issues connecting your PlayStation 4 controller, try restarting your computer or Mac. This may fix any software-related issues with the device and allow it to connect properly again when you reconnect it later.

Step 2: Connecting the controller using Bluetooth

The second method is to connect your PS4 controller via Bluetooth. This may be necessary if you don't have an available USB port or aren't able to connect it with a USB cable. To use this method, refer to your PC or Mac's manual for instructions on how to set up Bluetooth on that device. Once connected via Bluetooth, follow steps 1 and 2 above for connecting via USB cable (go here if you need help).

Step 3: Testing Your Connection

Once you've connected your PS4 controller via Bluetooth or USB, test it out by pressing the PS button. The light on the front of the controller should flash white and then turn blue to indicate a successful connection. If you have any questions about this process, please leave them in the comments section below!

Step 4: Connecting the controller without micro USB cable (in case when the PC does not recognize it)

Connect the controller to the PC using a micro-USB cable.

Turn on the controller and wait until it is recognized by your computer (it should appear as an additional USB controller), then turn on your computer after that.

If you’re using Windows 10, open up Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices > Add Bluetooth or other device, in which case you’ll need to pair with it as if it were any other Bluetooth device (make sure Bluetooth is turned on).

Once connected, you can start playing games with it!

You can connect a PS4 controller to your PC or Mac in several ways to let you game with your favorite gamepad.

To connect your PS4 controller:

Connect the controller to your PC or Mac using a USB cable. If it’s already connected, disconnect and reconnect it. Then try again by pressing the PS button on the front of the DualShock 4 until you see a light flashing on either side of it (this should take about one second). Once done, go back into Steam Big Picture > Controller Settings and test it out!

If that doesn’t work, try these additional steps: Open Steam and go to Settings > Controller. Uncheck the box next to “Enable gamepad support”, then click OK. Open Steam again and go back into the Controller Settings. Check the box next to “Enable gamepad support”, then click OK again.

I hope this article helped you to connect a PS4 controller to your PC or Mac.
